Build new fireplace and replace old stove with a new efficient woodburner and new chimney liner

Old tired multifuel stove needs replacing

This old stove is in need of a bit more than a service, it is tired and will not be cost effective to repair. Time to take it out and replace it with something more efficient and a little more up to date. There must be a fireplace behind that wall as the house is Victorian and the chimney is original.

Old flue pipe plastered into the wall

The flue pipe is built into the wall and as can be seen the plaster and mortar surrounding it has cracked. This could be dangerous as the seal between the pipe and the wall will have cracks in it and could cause poisonous gases to leak out into the room.

External chimney stack in poor condition

The chimney outside is in very bad condition from weathering and helped by the use of hard cement based mortar used at some time in the past. The old chimney terminals are badly cracked too, they're glazed drain pipes and although these aren't really a suitable material they were sometimes used as chimmney pots and linings. It is a miracle there aren't more accidents from masonry falling off chimneys.

New lining and chimney pots fitted by Fotheringhay Woodburners

Now the new chimney lining is installed and the masonry has been repaired with reclaimed bricks that match the existing and more suitable mortar. New chimney pots have been fitted with a taller chimney pot and stainless steel birdguard cowl used on the chimney with the stove and a short pot with a ventilated cap on the adjacent disused flue.

New fireplace and stove installed by Fotheringhay Woodburners

The fireplace has been opened up and the new surround built by our builder has been completed. The new efficient Charnwood Country 4 stove has been installed by Fotheringhay Woodburners and is tested ready to hand over to our customers.
